Reliance also owns and manages the FLAG (Fibre-optic Link across the Globe) system. The job includes cable route surveys to cover two routes, aimed at determining a suitable route to lay the submarine cable as well as a specialised UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) search within the proposed cable-lay corridor in order to avoid any such obstacles or hazards to the cable left over from the various conflicts in the area. The cumulative length of the two routes is about 225 kms, and this job almost mirrors the UXO search carried out by us in the same area in 2009, during which the seabed was found to be infested by man-made objects apparently discarded during the war. The project is awarded to EGS India on the basis of the unique expertise of undertaking specialised UXO Survey.
